Jack DeBoer

Jack DeBoer

The father of extended-stay hotel concept

He wanted to become the top multifamily developer in the United States, and he will go down in history as the originator of an extended-stay hotel concept. From the very beginning, he concluded that one guest who pays for fourteen nights is better than fourteen guests who pay for a single night. He perfectly specified the target market and, by deciphering its key needs, created a completely new product, which was a hybrid of an apartment building and a limited-service hotel. To this end, he violated numerous fundamental rules binding in the industry at that time. Being the visionary and innovator that he was, he remained faithful to his concept, developing as many as six extended-stay hotel brands for over forty-five years.
