The story of the hotel giant Accor begins with a chance encounter of two young French men in Lille who, having returned from the U.S., decided to combine their knowledge, skills and talents in a joint business endeavor that would have no major competition in France at that time. Back then, this condition was met by the lodging industry since, aside from Paris, a decent-standard hotel that was well-prepared for servicing travelers on a larger scale was hard to find. When putting up their first establishments in the place of former quarries, a junkyard or a beetroot field, Dubrule and Pélisson were believed to stand no chance of succeeding. Nonetheless, they did form an incredible duo that operated like a well-oiled machinery, putting their hearts and energy into every single project. This has made them the pioneers of chain hotels, first in France and then in Europe, and allowed them to build a truly galactic empire over the course of four decades.
