When in 1957 John Willard Marriott opened his first hotel in Washington, it was merely an addition to his catering empire that started as a small root beer stand. Nonetheless, many years later, it turned out that it constituted a foundation of a solid business that has made the name Marriott well-known throughout the hospitality world. He managed to achieve this because, in accordance with the principle stating that success is never final, he always strived for perfection by means of practical management, attention to details and by caring about his employees.
