He was an excellent example of a man who lacks school education but has the determination and boldness necessary for taking risks, and the nose for profitable investments, allowing him to become a great entrepreneur. Furthermore, he proved himself to be a courageous builder and constructor, and an experienced hotelier capable of erecting his hotels on inaccessible mountaintops, where he would bring his guests in self-designed funicular. He also became famous for his skillful takeovers, modernization works and construction of deluxe accommodation facilities in city centers, thus becoming one of the key figures in the history of Swiss hotel industry.
