Ellsworth Statler - The greatest innovator among hoteliers

Ellsworth Statler

The greatest innovator among hoteliers

When in 1950 American magazine The Southern Hotel Journal carried out a poll for the “Hotel Man of the Half Century”, Ellsworth Statler was chosen nearly unanimously. Despite the fact that he had been dead for twenty-two years by that time, he was announced by professionals the greatest contributor to the science of hotelkeeping. His life resembles the classic American dream; starting as a bellboy, he worked his way up to become one of the greatest hotel men of all time. His ideas and innovations set new standards in the industry, while the principle “the customer is always right” has become the leading slogan that inspires hoteliers across the globe to this day.
